DO IT YOURSELF WEIGHTS
I am making a set of dumbbells out of 2 empty detergent bottles. If I were to actually buy the equipment it would depend on the weight of the dumbbells but let’s say I fill the bottle up and it’s 8 pounds it would be around 16 dollars for both dumbbells. I chose to make the pieces of equipment this way because when I saw the detergent bottles I had a few ideas and the best one was for it to be a dumbbell because it has a handle bar and if you fill it up with water or sand it can have weight on it making it useful as a piece of equipment
The steps it took for me to make my own set of dumbbells were I needed to find any kind of bottle but bigger than a water bottle of course so I found a few empty detergent bottles and began there. I had my sister help me out to paint the bottles because I’m not the best painter so I needed help. The items I used to create my own weights were paint to paint the bottle and write on it and water to make it have some weight. I first filled it up about 3/4s with water just so it can have some weight on it to see if it would work as a weight and it did. I then painted and had my sister help me paint the other one that I wasn’t working on just to speed things up. Lastly I wrote a quote that came to mind and added a few more details like the weight of the weight and my name on the other side of it.
The experience was pretty cool because I got to paint and I haven’t painted in a while so it was fun. I think it’s important to know how to make a piece of exercise equipment because in times like this where the majority of the gyms are closed people don’t want to fall behind on their progress so I think creating a weight is beneficial in this case. The exercises that you can do with my DIY detergent weights are multiple versions of lateral raises(works your shoulders),tricep kickbacks(works your triceps),DB rows(works your back muscles) and lunges(works your quads). If get a broom stick or some form of a stick you can tape the handle to the bar so it won’t fall off. With the stick and the detergent bottles you can do many exercises such as barbell curls(works your biceps),OH shoulder press(works your shoulders),bench press with it as well(works your chest) and squats too(works your whole thigh).
